The Sojourners

Formative years spent singing in the churches of Texas, (Marcus Mosely), Louisiana, (Will Sanders) and Michigan, (Khari McClellan) give The Sojourners’ sound an authentic edge that only comes from experience. This is real gospel, blessed with a soul that can’t be faked. Brought together by blues icon Jim Byrnes, from the moment they stepped up to the microphone and began singing, they realized that they had something very special going on. When Byrnes dubbed them The Sojourners, the name stuck. This is not music that strives to be polite. In the Sojourners’ universe, echoes of doo wop, R&B, country and blues weave together to create a unique sound that has all but vanished from today’s world. This is gospel music that can take a punch and remain standing. Singing praise music the Sojourners sound just as at home in a road house bar as they do in a revival tent.  The Sojourners will be backed by Daniel Ruiz on drums, Rob Becker on bass and Noah Walker on guitar.

Ellen Braun

Ellen Braun performs both as a solo act and with her band, Trundled. Her song Inchoate, made it to the top 100 in CBC’s 2018 Searchlight. Seized in the embrace of the Rockies, Ellen’s lyrical canvas has stretched to allow her to fervently capture the hearts of audiences as they follow her artistic odyssey. Ellen writes songs one wants to both curl up with and spread out in. There’s a warmth and honesty to her storytelling that follows a hard worn path carved by Northern songwriters. Her music evokes a beautiful and vast landscape with all of its dark truths and hopefulness.

Cook’s tales of dark beauty tempered with an offbeat sense of humour will captivate you. Hard to pigeon-hole, his influences range from Hank Williams to J.J. Cale and everything in between. He cut his musical teeth in Alberta’s rough and tumble honky-tonks and blues bars playing for cowboys, lumberjacks and bikers. In Cook’s words “It grows a thick hide on you.” His newest CD eventually is being released this September.

Madison Violet

Madison Violet, Brenley MacEachern and Lisa MacIsaac, have earned a Juno nomination and a Canadian Folk Music Award for Best Vocal Group Album of the Year and a Critic’s Choice award from Country Music People’s Magazine. Their songs earned the duo the Grand Prize in the 2010 Maxell John Lennon Song Writing Contest. MacIsaac and MacEachern first met at an artists’ hangout in Toronto in the late 1990’s. The Knight Sessions is a mix of stripped back, acoustic takes on some of their more upbeat musings as well as a new batch of poetic and heartfelt tunes. When you hear them, the first thing you’ll notice is that their voices blend together, symbiotically, like family: Born to sing the same songs. They have taken to genre-bending, moving effortlessly from folk to pop to electronic to Americana. Paul Woida

Paul Woida is a singer-songwriter and master looper, a musician who loops,records, and plays back melodic and rhythmic lines using instruments and voice in real time. Paul creates multiple layers which weave in and out of the musical arrangement he creates. With diplomas in both Composition and Drum Set from Grant MacEwan University, Paul combines complex rhythms with melody and harmony resulting in a sound close to that of a full band. HIs unique live show turns heads and wins the hearts of new fans wherever he goes. His incredible musicianship, catchy hooks and emotive vocals are unforgettable once experienced.
